Stanbic Bank donates UGX 150 million towards Makerere’s centenary celebrations. 

“We have contributed UGX 150 Million shillings to Makerere at a hundred celebrations, and that is not all, we will continue supporting the university in kind.” Ms Anne Juuko said.

Stanbic Bank Uganda Limited, the largest commercial bank in Uganda, has today, 18th May, donated Ugx 150 million Uganda shillings towards Makerere’s centenary celebrations.

This timely contribution will be instrumental in boosting activities lined up on the university calendar in commemoration of a hundred years of Makerere’s existence. The activities include Public Lectures, a Centenary Conference, and Centenary Run, among many others that can be accessed through the events section on this website. 

In a statement, the Vice-Chancellor of Makerere University, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe has thanked Ms Anne Juuko, the Chief Executive Officer, Stanbic bank and the entire bank leadership for the “generous donation of UGX 150 million towards the Makerere at a hundred celebrations. May our partnership grow stronger,” he said, via his Twitter page.

Commenting on the donation, Ms Anne Juuko, the CEO of Stanbic bank said that as a proud alumnus of Makerere, she will continue being the institution’s great ambassador and that today’s Ugx 150 million shillings contribution towards the centenary celebrations is not all. 

“We have contributed UGX 150 Million shillings to Makerere at a hundred celebrations, and that is not all, we will continue supporting the university in kind.” Ms Anne Juuko said.

Ms Anne Juuko further pledged a strong partnership between Stanbic Bank and Makerere University, she retaliated this year’s collaboration agreed between both institutions to provide students with laptops to ease E-Learning, as Makerere embraces online teaching in the post- Covid-19 world.

“In partnership with Makerere, Stanbic Bank through the ‘Ffuna Ka Laptop Program,’ students can now get laptops at a minimum fee of Ugx 70000 shillings per month.” she said, adding, “We are committed to the evolution of education as Makerere celebrates a hundred years.

Makerere University’s celebration of 100 years marks the end of a century of excellence, and offers a chance to look beyond, and see how to participate in “Leveraging the 100 Years of Excellence in Building a Transformed Society.
