About The Centennial Celebrations

Opening its doors to 14 day students in 1922, Makerere University has grown to become one of the most prestigious Universities in Africa.

This celebration marks the end of a century of excellence, and offers a chance to look beyond, and see how to Leveraging the 100 Years of Excellence in Building a Transformed Society”

This Committee is charged with the organisation of the activities during the one year of celebration. It also includes sub-committees to assist in the organisation of the various events.

The Central Organising Committee is tasked to coordinate and provide strategic direction to all planning and execution of the Centennial Celebrations.

This Committee is supported by different sub-committees, which provide additional support in planning, and execution of the various events and activities associated with Makerere At 100.

The membership of the Central Organising Committee of different members nominated by Council, that include, Council members, Staff and Management, the students Guild, Alumni, Government Departments, and other stakeholders.

Our Journey

Established in January 1922 as a humble technical school, opening its doors to 14 day students who began studying Carpentry, Building and Mechanics, Makerere University has grown to become one of the oldest and most prestigious Universities in Africa. The school was later renamed Uganda Technical College.
